YouTube: You Created the Content, Now Sell the Ads

Google, Looking to Monetize Video Site, Is Letting Content Producers Sell Advertising on Their Branded Channels

NEW YORK (AdAge.com) -- Google has struggled to find the best way to monetize YouTube. The latest idea: Let content creators sell ads.

Professional content producers -- those who come equipped with their own ad-sales teams -- are now able to sell advertising on their YouTube channels. That includes the click-to-expand overlays that run across the bottoms of YouTube videos and display units on the page that hosts the video player. The revenue is split between the content creator and YouTube, just as it would be if YouTube sold the ads.

Google Adword Creativity

Interesting article about Adwords (with pics):

Text ads can be smart, funny, and sometimes unintentionally hilarious when they show up in the wrong context.

The idea here is CREATIVITY like in any other ad format that differentiate you from others in the otherwise cluttered environment.

Somebody asked what you can do with words other than writing a small copy in Google adword program and making it most relevant to the keyword punched in.

Result of this thought: All the ads look just the same.

Free Service Combats Google's Latest Privacy Policy Ruling for AdSense Publishers

Announcing the Latest Google Compliance Requirement. Webmasters hosting Google AdSense on their sites are now being forced meet Google's new privacy policy requirements or face the consequences once again as Google continues to grind out yet another of their stress inducing compliance tactics.

(PRWEB) May 22, 2008 -- To solve the problem, generate a free Google compliant Privacy Policy right now, easily tailored to work on any website. (Takes less than 15 minutes)

Announcing the Latest Google Compliance Requirement

Many webmasters hosting Google AdSense on their sites are forced to comply or face consequences once again as Google continues to grind out yet another of their stress inducing compliance tactics.

Warning: Do as Google Says, or Face De-activation of AdSense Revenue.

The most recent crackdown from Google is the requirement for a privacy policy on every site hosting Google AdSense.

Google has gained a reputation for forcing webmasters to scramble every time they implement another one of their "Quality Compliance Rules". This latest rule is aimed at AdSense publishers not hosting a proper Privacy Policy.

This particular rule isn't quite as stressful as some previous Google Slaps have been, but it still has the power to get an AdSense account shut off by not meeting Google's requirements.

An Easy 15 Minute Solution

There are a number of solutions to writing a Privacy Policy which range from free (for example: bonus from a software vendor like Trust Guard) to hundreds of dollars if an attorney is involved. In this case, requirements are easily met for most sites.

Introducing third-party ads on the Google content network

The Google content network now accepts display ads served from qualified third-party vendors. Third-party ad serving has been a longstanding request from top brand AdWords advertisers who use third parties to create and manage their online campaigns. Initially, we will be only accepting third-party ads in English, but we hope to expand to other languages soon.

Making the Google content network more accessible to large brand advertisers also benefits AdSense publishers and end users. Third-party ad serving will introduce a greater variety of advertising into the Google content network, increase the inventory of quality display ads competing to show on AdSense publisher sites, and offer more engaging ads for end users. In the long run, we believe the increased inventory and ad competition will result in increased revenue for many AdSense publishers.

Yahoo to Test-Drive Google’s AdSense

Desperate for an alternative to a Microsoft takeover, Yahoo explores a partnership with archrival Google.

For more than two months, Yahoo’s official line about Microsoft’s unsolicited bid is that it is exploring “strategic alternatives.” The pundits (and some shareholders) would argue that no viable alternative exists to the offer from Microsoft.

But today, Yahoo made a move. The Web pioneer announced that it was conducting a trial of Google’s AdSense for Search product to place ads alongside Yahoo’s search results.

Outsourcing search advertising to Google (NASDAQ: GOOG) has been a long-simmering rumor as one of Yahoo’s few options to remain independent in light of the acquisition bid, which represented a 62 percent premium over Yahoo’s value at the time.

Show me the ads

After months of testing, we've just updated our text ad format to include 'next' and 'previous' arrow buttons for cost-per-click (CPC) ads. When a user clicks on the 'next' button, an entirely new group of ads will appear in the ad unit, giving your users greater control over the ads they see and click.

While the ads the user initially sees may be relevant to a publisher's content, they may not be precisely what the user is seeking -- for example, a user may see ads about cheddar and brie cheese but would prefer more information about Swiss cheese. With the 'next' and 'previous' buttons, users can view more cheese ads until a Swiss cheese ad appears.

Google Adwords Changes Provide More Rounded Package

Google has announced a number of changes to its key Adwords product that will provide a more rounded product offering to Adwords’ advertisers.

Google has tweaked its site targeting feature to give advertisers the ability to run their campaigns not only on the front page of sites, but also on specific pages on each site. The feature now has a new (and appropriate) name: placement targeting.

Google Brings YouTube Clips to AdSense

Google distributing YouTube video clips through the AdSense network is kind of analogous to what Google was doing with YouTube on the YouTube site, said Greg Sterling, principal analyst at Sterling Market Intelligence. "People have been speculating over how Google would make money with YouTube. This is one way."

Google is extending its YouTube brand, with plans to show videos on sites all over the Web. AdSense publishers now can display relevant, targeted video content within a customized, embedded player that is supported by advertising.

Google announced the new content-distribution channel on Tuesday, reckoning that as media becomes more and more fragmented, content providers and advertisers will look for new ways to distribute their messages to the right audiences.

Google said it is working with selected YouTube content partners, including TV Guide Broadband, Expert Village, Mondo Media, lonelygirl15, Extreme Elements, and Ford Models to supply the video content. No homegrown videos are included, and the clips will play only after users click on them.

Google launches interactive widget ads

Google today launched Gadget Ads, a new interactive rich media ad format which will allow advertisers to measure users' responses to the ads, as well as updating ad content in real time.

The new ads designed for use across Google's network of sites, and aims to offer a way for internet users to interact with ad content in a way that is not possible with standard web ads.

The measurability of the Gadget ads will appeal to advertisers, and goes beyond merely measuring how many people clicked on an ad.

Instead, advertisers will be able to see how many users interacted with the ads in a number of ways. For instance, in the case of video ads, advertisers can see how much of a video has been watched, whether menu controls were used, and so on.

Google Adsense Ad Border with Rounded Corners

Most Google Adsense publishers match the ad border color with the site background to remove the ad unit border and increase clicks to generate more money. The square edged border failed to blend with many web designs, and now I see an option to create rounded corner borders.

Login to your Google Adsense panel and find a new option of Corner Styles to optionally choose from one of 3 pre-designed corner styles.

Oh Google, Is There Anything You CAN’T Do?

Google has begun testing with in-stream video ads from a small group of U.S. advertisers and publishers using AdSense.

Ad creative will be less than 30 seconds and made skippale by the users. Publishers will be able to choose which videos to monetize as well as their ad’s location within the video, and track their results using AdSense. Participating sites within the network will test using each publisher’s Flash player as opposed to Google video-hosted forums. In the tradition of AdSense deals, the ad revenue will be split between Google and the website publisher.

According to TechCrunch, Google has just acquired Feedburner, a web feed management company for $100 million. This was previously a rumor but now has been confirmed by Michael Arrington, who says that the deal mostly involves upfront cash payment by Google.

Interesting news for publishers currently running Feedburner’s advertising program because it’s likely that Google might integrate its Adsense contextual ad network with Feedburner.
