Google TV: This Is Only a Test

Google’s partnership last week with NBCU marked a huge leap forward for the search giant’s television advertising business. The multi-year advertising partnership gives Google permission to sell a portion of NBC Universal’s advertising inventory. But the deal seems less about Google’s expanded reach and more about the search giant getting the opportunity to show if it can turn the business upside down.

Working with NBC Universal gives Google access to inventory on channels like Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, and Sci-Fi. But according to Ad Age, NBCU views the partnership as a small experiment that could help the media company transition into a multiple model for selling its advertising.

Google planning to redefine television: Android TV?

When you think Google, you probably think search engine, and, with Google trying to move into the wireless industry, it may be a bit confusing as to what Google’s doing with itself. Let’s not forget one thing: the core of Google’s business is advertising. With that in mind, it would make sense why Google would want to redefine TV.

The company is currently researching methods to get Google in, on, or under your TV, and it has little or nothing to do with the Google TV ads being tested under EchoStar.

Yet Google’s not denying anything either. Vincent Dureua, Google’s TV technology boss, couldn’t state the company’s goal for the medium any more clearly: "We are confident we are going to revive the television advertising industry by bringing new advertising to it."

Google expert says 'TV is dead'

One of the founding fathers of the internet has predicted the end of traditional television.

Vint Cerf, who helped to build the internet while working as a researcher in America, said that television was approaching its "iPod moment".

In the same way that people now download their favourite music onto their iPod, he said that viewers would soon be downloading most of favourite programmes onto their computers.

Google/YouTube Slammed By Japanese Coalition

A new report claims that a group of Japanese music, film and television representatives held a press conference in Tokyo yesterday to complain about copyright violations on YouTube. One composer, Hideki Matsutake (pictured right ), is quoted as saying, “YouTube has to stop how it runs its site and get rid of the illegal clips. We want them to reset the service… There is no middle ground. We demand that all copyrighted material be removed immediately.”

There are also comments from a member of Japanese Society for Rights of Authors, Composers and Publishers, the group Google has attempted to appease since last year regarding the YouTube copyright issue.

Apple to allow YouTube on Apple TV

On the same day that Apple launched DRM-free music, they made two other announcements regarding Apple TV. Apple said Wednesday, that they are bringing original content from the wildly popular and often sued YouTube, to the living room with Apple TV. Apple said to expect the feature by mid-June. Apple TV will wirelessly stream videos directly from YouTube and play them on a user’s widescreen television.
