Google adds flight status to search tool
![]() Holiday travellers wondering if their scheduled airline flight is running on time can go to a familiar, if unconventional, source for the information: Google. The popular online search engine announced Tuesday that it has modified its search tool to provide up-to-date information on the status of daily airline flights. When users type their airline and flight number into the Google search bar, the first result returned will tell them whether the flight is on time or delayed, as well as estimated departure and arrival times. ![]() Some time last week, Google expanded Google Earth with Google Sky. As fascinating as Google Sky is, that's not the focus of this post. Along with the latest update comes a hidden feature of which I cannot seem to find any other information about. It's not in the release notes and a search on Google produces no results. Seems Google have done one of their unpublicised updates they're becoming well-known for. What I'm talking about is a flight simulator embedded within GE. Sounds awesome, doesn't it? If the thought amazes you as much as it did me, then might have run off and tried it for yourself. But there's a problem. Remember what I said above - it's a hidden feature! Google Gives JetBlue In-Flight Tracking

The service has been in the news again and again over the past few weeks, and it would be enough to make you sick - except that most of what’s happening is pretty cool. The latest development - a partnership between Google Maps and JetBlue Airways - meets the same standard. Unfortunately, “pretty cool” is not “revolutionary” - the partnership, as it stands at the moment, will only bring about flight tracking. “We’re constantly looking for ways to enhance our customers’ in-flight experience,” explained Brett Muney, a manager of product development for JetBlue, in an official statement. “With the addition of Google’s advanced mapping technology, our customers can enjoy a seat with a view - tracking their flight’s altitude, speed and location on the way to their destination.” Read more: webpronews.com ![]() Labels: Flight, JetBlue, Maps, partnership |
