Google CEO: Yahoo Wedding Is On

While Google is bracing for a fight with government regulators and rival Microsoft (NSDQ:MSFT) to get the stamp of regulatory approval for its advertising pact with Yahoo (NSDQ:YHOO), CEO Eric Schmidt Wednesday said that the search engine behemoth is moving full steam ahead with its plans.

The European Union in July launched its own investigation regarding potential antitrust issues and the effect the Google (NSDQ:GOOG)/Yahoo deal could have on the European Economic Area market.

Schmidt told reporters Wednesday that he thinks that the company does not need specific U.S. government approval, and that any delay will cause the search engines to lose money in advertising revenue. Schmidt also said he expects that the plan will be implemented around October 11.

The controversy surrounding the deal stems from Google's disclosure in June that it inked a non-exclusive advertising agreement providing Yahoo with access to Google's AdSense program for search and AdSense for content advertising programs on Yahoo's U.S. and Canadian Web properties.

Google co-founder weds

The wedding of Larry Page, the co-founder of Google, on Sir Richard Branson's luxury Caribbean island has generated a swirl of excitement despite attempts to keep the nuptials private.

Up to 600 people were expected to witness Page tie the knot with doctoral student Lucy Southworth on Necker Island, Branson's 74-acre British Virgin Islands hideaway.

The Virgin boss's involvement reportedly even stretched to performing the best man's duties for his fellow billionaire.

Page had been labelled one of the world's most eligible bachelors, with a fortune estimated at $18.5bn (£9.1bn). Attempts to keep details of the bash under wraps were not wholly successful, with various US newspapers and blogs reporting details from the exclusive gathering.

Google co-founder Sergey Brin gets hitched in the Bahamas

Google co-founder Sergey Brin and long-time sweetheart Anne Wojcicki, herself a biotech entrepreneur, exchanged vows recently in the Bahamas, according to several sources, in an ceremony so hush-hush that it wasn't reported for more than a week, and even the date is uncertain (sometime between May 4 and May 6).

The ceremony combined the unconventional and traditional. The bride and groom and other members of the wedding party wore swimsuits, having swum to an offshore sandbar while other guests took a boat. About 60 guests were in attendance, said guests at the ceremony who requested anonymity.
