Google’s Eric Schmidt Defines Web 3.0


I was just getting used to Web 2.0.

Want to know what Web 3.0 is going to be about?

So did an audience member at the Seoul Digital Forum back in May when he asked Google’s CEO Eric Schmidt to define Web 3.0. Schmidt’s first response was that Web 2.0 is nothing more than “a marketing term” - which I partly agree with. I think Web 2.0 used in the mass media to create hype is a marketing term. But when I consider Web 2.0 from a user’s perspective (gotta watch this video as well), I can honestly see the difference from the web of yesteryear.

Microsoft opens research center for search engines


Microsoft is still failing to overcome Google, king of the search engines, despite trying every tactic they know. Those tactics included ample marketing, bribery, OS integration and a host of others – but they just can't knock down the kingpin. Now they intend to learn how. They are opening up a dedicated research center specifically for search technology and advertising technology.

Get a Room, eBay and Google


The two dot-com titans are bickering again.

The love-hate relationship between eBay (Nasdaq: EBAY) and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG) has turned acrimonious again. The latest spat is a simultaneous slap that finds eBay pulling its stateside contextual marketing spots from Google's paid search program just as Google made plans to crash tonight's launch of eBay Live with a media-magnetizing protest.

These emotional moves aren't petty. This could be the end of what was once a beautiful relationship, with Dear John letters scribbled in blood, tears, and grain alcohol.
